Guiyang named 2025 City of the Year by New Weekly

Guiyang has been named a "2025 City of the Year" at the 2025 China Annual Trend Ranking, hosted by New Weekly on Dec 19 in Shanghai.

New Weekly described Guiyang as a symbiosis of cyberpunk and pastoral idyll, integrating high technology into everyday urban life while preserving the warmth of human existence in the modern era.

Guiyang has focused on resources, visitor sources, and services to enhance the health, cultural, sightseeing, food, shopping, and travel experiences. It has launched signature events, including flower appreciation, summer escape, hot spring, and fireworks seasons, to integrate culture, sports, commerce, and tourism.

Keywords such as "Roadside Music Concerts," "Ethnic Unity Grand Parades," "Guiyang Coffee," and "Guiyang Marathon" have gained traction online, positioning Guiyang as a sought-after travel destination for both local and distant visitors.

New Weekly's Year-End Review began in 1997, covering multiple aspects of public interest, including mainstream trends, forward-looking perspectives, and hot topics, and has since established itself as an annual review of societal highlights.

Building on this, the China Annual Trend Ranking was launched in 2001. Co-created by New Weekly and other major Chinese media outlets, the ranking focuses on annual highlights, insights into societal trends, and driving cultural evolution.
