During the May Day holiday, the tourism market in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, experienced a surge in visitor numbers. The Guiyang Tourism Distribution Center was bustling with crowds, while surrounding businesses saw booming sales and significant revenue growth.
On May 1 alone, the center dispatched over 90 tourist buses to popular attractions across the province, including Huangguoshu Waterfall, Libo Xiaoqikong scenic area, and Xijiang Thousand Households Miao Village. This marked a notable increase compared to the 50-plus buses dispatched during the same period last year.
Data from Ctrip revealed that on the first day of the holiday, hotel bookings in the province rose by 33 percent year-on-year, with Guiyang's hotel orders jumping 42 percent. The tourism boom boosted neighboring businesses, with daily sales at many shops doubling their average.
To accommodate the surge in visitors, a convenience store near the distribution center adjusted its layout by moving the checkout counter back by 3 meters and dedicating a section to ready-to-eat foods. Shelves were stocked with bottled water, bread, milk, and other essentials. During the morning rush hour from 6:20 to 6:50 am, over 100 tourists flocked to the store.
