Six winter hiking trails in Guiyang: Embrace nature's beauty

Winter may seem like the dullest season of the year, lacking vitality and energy. But once you step outside the city and immerse yourself in nature, you'll discover that winter offers some of the purest landscapes. Here are some of the best winter hiking spots in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province. Lace up your boots and explore!  

Yunwu Mountain

Located in Niuchang township, Baiyun district, Yunwu Mountain is one of the top 10 peaks in Guiyang and was once the highest in the city. When temperatures drop in winter, visitors can witness stunning rime and enjoy breathtaking snow views.  

Suggested starting point: Baiyan village, Baiyun district  

Hiking distance: 12 kilometers  

Suitable for: Those with a good fitness level and hiking experience

Nanyue Mountain

Nanyue Mountain, located in Nanming district, is another of Guiyang's top 10 peaks. Stretching for thousands of meters, it's also known as the "dragon spine" of Guiyang. The hiking trail is well-maintained along the way, with clear paths and panoramic views. From the summit, you can overlook much of the cityscape and enjoy some of the best spots to watch the sunrise and sunset.  

Suggested starting point: Parking is limited, but you can take a bus to Huaguan Zhonglu North station, then walk 50 meters north to reach the trailhead.  

Hiking distance: 3-6 km

Suitable for: Beginner outdoor enthusiasts

Daluo Ridge

Daluo Ridge, located in Yunyan district, is the highest peak of the Qianling Mountain. Follow the saddle-shaped ridge of Daluo Ridge to reach the summit, where you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the entire city.

Suggested starting point: Start at the east, south, west, or north gate

Hiking distance: 7 km

Suitable for: Beginner outdoor enthusiasts, families

Jiulong Mountain

Rising majestically beside Baihua Lake in Guanshanhu district, Jiulong Mountain is another of Guiyang's top 10 peaks. From the viewing platform at the top, you can take in the entire Baihua Lake below.  

Suggested starting point: Jiulong Mountain Youth Outdoor Activity Camp

Hiking distance: 8 km

Suitable for: Beginner outdoor enthusiasts

Panlongshan Forest Park

Located in Shuitian town, Wudang district, Panlongshan Forest Park covers over 80,000 mu (5333.33 hectares) of forest. Its vegetation coverage rate is over 94 percent, making it a natural oxygen bar.  

Suggested starting point: Panlongshan Forest Park parking lot

Hiking distance: 7-10 km

Suitable for: All ages

Dianshan village  

Dianshan village, located in Baiyun district, boasts over 10,000 mu of forest. It boasts quarries, mountains and forests, making it a true mountain landscape museum.  

Suggested starting point: Dianshan village  

Hiking distance: 7.13 km  

Suitable for: Beginner outdoor enthusiasts, families
