Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently ranked third among China's 10 most popular summer getaway destinations due to its natural advantages that help people avoid the summer heat, according to the data obtained from online travel platform Mafengwo on June 25.
Mafengwo's big data revealed that during the Dragon Boat Festival, Guiyang's popularity among those opting for "short-distance tours" increased by 83 percent.
Among them, the popularity of "exploring caves around Guiyang" jumped 48 percent, with Yangpi, Shilong, and Yanzi caves being the top draws.
On the Mafengwo platform, the popularity of camping also surged by 120 percent, and Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and Guizhou were the most popular camping destinations.
Families preferred destinations that offer animal viewing, scientific education, water recreation, and ecological experiences.
For example, Beijing's Universal Studios, Shanghai's Disneyland, Guangzhou's Chimelong Safari Park, Sichuan's China Dead Sea scenic spot, Guizhou's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, and Yunnan's Puzhehei National Wetland Park all attracted hordes of families.
