Southwest China's Guizhou province recently selected the top 10 non-State-owned museums in the region – four of which are located in the provincial capital city of Guiyang.

The four museums are the Guiyang Kejia Museum, the Guiyang Multicolor Art and National Costume Museum, the Guiyang Shoushang Jiyi Museum and the Guiyang Liu Yuzhi Newspaper Museum.

As key part of Guizhou's overall museum sector, non-State-owned museums are widely seen to play an important role in attracting social participation and boosting the development of ethnic culture.

To encourage the establishment of more museums by the private sector and individuals, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has issued a number of policies that cover training on holding exhibitions, academic research, exhibit management and museum security.

Guizhou will also support the training of museum organization and management staff at non-State-owned museums, as well as identify the top 10 non-State-owned museums and give them awards.
